The first part takes place on Friday evening, the 23rd of March and is both to inform you about the theme of Human Trafficking as well as to allow you to get to know the other students that participate in this event by an included dinner.

Friday evening starts off at 5:00pm in the ‘Utrechts Centrum voor de Kunsten’, the Marnix Room. It is located next to the Dom Tower, in the heart of the City. In the Marnix Room you will receive information from guest speakers on the theme of the UUMUN Academy – Human Trafficking. The Utrecht Centre for the Arts, also known as Utrechts Centrum voor de Kunsten (UCK), provides rooms and space for all kind of cultural expressions and art performance, like theatre, ballet, and music. It is also possible to follow art courses in different a various directions of art.

We are proud to present our first speaker, Professor Conny Rijken. She works at the Tilburg Law School (Tilburg University) and is specialized in Human Trafficking. She is also involved in the International Victimology Institute Tilburg (INTERVICT). The focus of her presentation will be the definition of human trafficking and the forms it takes.

Our second speaker is director of Amnesty International, an NGO that fights violation of human rights in the world. Eduard Nazarski, director of Amnesty International will inform you about the overall traject of human trafficking and the shortcomings of the current approach to tackle human trafficking by the international community discussing a rapport about Libya published by Amnesty International.

Finally, executive director of Anti-trafficking centre CoMensha Ina Hut will elaborate on the aspect of victim support and reintegration after the police has rescued the victims out of the hands of human traffickers

After a 2 hour session of guest speakers, a walking dinner including a welcome drink is provided for in The Colour Kitchen. The walking dinner will provide the perfect opportunity to socialize with the other participating students. Most importantly, during a real United Nations session, socializing and getting to know other represented countries is essential for a full understanding of the coming debate.

One drink is included, but we welcome everyone to stay longer and enjoy some more drinks with the whole group!

On Saturday morning, the 24th of March, the second part of the UUMUN Academy takes off at 10:00am. The second day is located at the Law Faculty of Utrecht University, a monumental building situated at Janskerkhof 2. We will start the day by giving two Masterclass in public speaking and lobbying. The public speaking Masterclass will give you the opportunity to get a better idea of what a good speech entails, and also allows you to write an openingsspeech for the MUN that follows. At the end of Saturday morning, we will explain more about the MUN and what it exactly encompasses. During lunch, which is provided by UUMUN, you can already start getting to know your fellow delegates and the views of their countries. After lunch, there is half an hour which you can use for last preparations before the MUN starts, during which you can ask the UUMUN delegation all your remaining questions. From 1:00pm until 2:00pm we will get lunch, and at 2:00pm the MUN session starts!

At 6:00pm the day concludes. For anyone who would like to socialize some more, we will have drinks at the Ubica at Ganzenmarkt.
